To succeed

I had dinner with a close friend. She is a director/screenwriter and working on her first novel. When I asked about how she was doing with that, she said she was challenging herself to be as truthful as possible to who she is, to how she views life and what her outlook is on humanity.
I believe that if you manage to do exactly that, you can safely say you have succeeded. And this does not only apply to writing.
