rock bottom
published: 2013-04-07Once upon a time, I lost my voice. I couldn’t speak for a year or two. It wasn’t an easy predicament to be in considering I was a lawyer at the time.
During those years of distress, a friend asked: “have you hit rock-bottom yet?” It had me wondering how you know if you’ve hit rock-bottom. The answer is: you can’t.
There are many bottoms. Each one collapses beneath your feet as if to say: “surprise, there’s an even lower one! Brace!” This goes on and on and on until one day you do actually know you’ve hit it. Why? For the simple reason that you feel better. And so, one can only answer that question in retrospect. Which is when it no longer matters.
