More writing wisdom
published: 2008-09-08This evening I spoke to another screenwriter friend on the phone. As always, we talked about her writing and mine. I mentioned that for me, ending a scene (which in proze often stretches out over a full chapter due to all of the backstory) isn't a good idea because it always takes me at least two weeks to work myself up into such a state that I'm able to start a new scene. She said, "it's like being in a relationship really isn't it? You can force your partner into having sex with you but you'll be feeling pretty stale about the whole thing afterwards. It's best you wait until you're in exactly the right mood."
