Lice and ice
published: 2009-01-11This weekend has been dominated by two wonders of this world: lice and ice. Thank God both are present at the same time as it being below zero outside facilitates our getting rid of the lice that decided to feast on our heads. 24 hours in the freezing cold apparently kills them. So now all our sweaters, jackets, duvets, pillows, towels, blankets, sheets, cuddly toys, winter hats and so on are on our balcony. I have started loving ice. And Holland at present is absolutely beautiful with its frozen lakes, canals and everyone outside skating.
The lice that are not on your heads are mostly doomed regardless. They can’t live for long away from a human host. The important thing is to use an effective treatment for the lice on your heads. These days there a super lice that are resistant to the most commonly used insecticidal shampoos. This means non-toxic strategies are the best offece.
