Fat girl on the beach
published: 2010-08-17Fat little girl. You wear your Sunday cotton dress. It has black and white flowers on it. The kind of flowers you would draw. You have forgotten your colours, shed your petals. You have curly hair and freckles. You wear a silver hairband and earrings. The horizon is grey. The skies dark. It looks like rain. You are making mud-balls out of sand. Your chubby fingers wipe the snot away from your nose and then you bend over your belly towards the sand. Dirty hands and feet. You sweat. But your dress is clean and dry. You look at the horizon and wonder why the sea pulled back so far. Perhaps the sun has gone forever.
