Equal distribution

published: 2008-10-22

I am going to have lunch with a film distributor on Friday. Over the years he's become a friendly acquaintance and has always showed interest in my work. God knows he's probably wondering how far to stretch the definition of friendly as he's had to read his way through a few of my scripts and ideas. This time around, I'm feeling less of a desperate screenwriter and more of a person. I believe the screenplay we just submitted to Sundance is perfectly
capable of selling itself. Most certainly it won't benefit from me
trying to smile it through the process. I'll now be able to enjoy having lunch with him without simultaneously wondering whether it would be appropriate to ask him a favor. I may even throw in a cynical joke or two: "you want happy ending?"
(sorry guys, simply couldn't resist that one).
