I am a writer, but well before I wrote my first novel, I trained as a lawyer. I combine both skills in my current position at film and tv production company Nijenhuis & Co. Here, I am Creative Producer of various projects and I oversee development & licensing.
I was born in the Caribbean where I returned to after university to work as a lawyer. My experiences during those years formed the foundations for my first novel: Sandblasted (2007, publishing house Augustus, Amsterdam). The story of Sandblasted leans on modern day conflicts of identity that can be traced back to our 17th C slave history. Sandblasted was shortlisted for the Dutch debutant award.
After having worked as a lawyer for a couple of years, I moved back to Amsterdam and took on various jobs for film production companies. I was simultaneously writing and in 2001, my first play was staged. After that, I co-wrote a screenplay for a feature film – Adrenaline - which was released in Benelux cinemas in 2003.
There’s so much more I’d like to share – such as that I am advisor to the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts – but why don’t you send me an email and we’ll have coffee.
