Construction

published: 2009-01-27

I'm about to go to the Caribbean and have tons of practicalities to take care of. Instead, I couldn't resist working on a scene in my novel. I just closed the file I was working on and couldn't help but think the paragraph I had been working on feels too constructed. By now I have learned that if it feels too constructed, it is too constructed. And there's no getting away with it. Means I'm going to have to rewrite that paragraph again and again. Construct it to not feel constructed. But first things first: pack up, pick up my son and get him a last-minute haircut as his hair is almost as long as mine, and then there's all the other practicalities I should have taken care of today.
